The Shopify Conversion Rate Checklist
A focused checklist for the part of your store that turns visitors into buyers — calls to action, page hierarchy, trust signals, and cart and checkout friction.
Traffic gets a store noticed; conversion rate is what decides whether that traffic pays for itself. Two stores can get identical visitor numbers and end the month with very different revenue, purely based on how well the path from landing page to checkout is built. This checklist focuses specifically on that path — not SEO or speed, which we have covered elsewhere, but the mechanics of turning an interested visitor into a buyer.
Calls to action
- Every page has one clear, primary action — not three competing buttons pulling attention in different directions.
- The action button uses specific language ("Add to cart", "Get 20% off") rather than a generic "Submit" or "Click here".
- The CTA is visible without scrolling on both desktop and mobile.
Visual hierarchy
A visitor should understand what you sell, why it matters, and what to do next within a few seconds — before they scroll. If the most important element on the page is fighting for attention with a slider, a popup, and a banner all at once, none of them win.
- The most important message on each page is the most visually prominent thing on it.
- Product images are large enough to actually show detail, not squeezed to fit a busy layout.
- Secondary content — related products, reviews, footer links — stays visually secondary.
Trust signals
Visitors who have never bought from you before are, correctly, a little skeptical. Trust signals close that gap.
- Reviews or ratings are visible on product pages, not buried on a separate tab.
- Shipping, return and warranty policies are easy to find before checkout, not discovered as a surprise during it.
- Secure-checkout badges and recognizable payment logos are present at the point of purchase.
Product visibility and cross-sell
Once someone is interested in one product, a well-placed related item, bundle or upgrade can lift the order without any extra traffic. Done badly — too many options, poorly matched suggestions — it just adds noise. Keep cross-sells relevant and limited to a couple of genuinely complementary options.
Cart and checkout
- Shipping costs are shown before the final checkout step, not sprung on the visitor at the end.
- Guest checkout is available — do not force account creation to complete a purchase.
- The number of form fields and steps is as short as it can reasonably be.
Turn this into a prioritized fix list
Working through a checklist by hand tells you what might be wrong; it does not tell you what to fix first. BrandForge AI’s conversion optimizer scans your store for exactly these issues — weak CTAs, hierarchy problems, missing trust signals, cross-sell gaps — and ranks them by severity so you know where to start. It is free to try, no credit card, no sign-up.
